Another day of gratitude for this project as this is yet another artist I’d never heard of before. This is my favorite part of this project; the opportunity to hear wonderful music that I likely never would have experienced. What a gift!
I was surprised at how emotional I got toward the end of Part I; the joy and happiness conveyed through this amazing piano playing. Throughout the entire album the richness of tone and the fullness of the notes wraps around you and invites you to stay awhile.
I’m not really a jazz fan. I heard it described once as sounding like if someone took a bunch of random instruments and threw them down a stairwell. Sometimes jazz sounds exactly like that to me. But jazz, like any musical form, can be beautiful. And this record is definitely beautiful; exceedingly so. I will definitely be exploring much more of his catalogue. I hope you do too!
What are your thoughts about this album? And what about jazz?
My Rating:
This album almost never happened. The chaotic lead up to the concert performance would suggest that the creative process is fueled by chaos and adversity. The story surrounding the production is interesting. If interested, I encourage you to read the Wikipedia article about it.
This is a short snipped from the man himself about the concert: Keith Jarrett on doing the Cologne Concert
There is a nice appreciation of Keith Jarrett here: The Most Beautiful 2 Minutes of Music
And here is an entire interview with Keith Jarrett: The Keith Jarrett Interview
Enjoy and listen without prejudice. Cheers!

I will give this a listen. George Winston has been a go to in past. Be nice to add a new artist to my Piano favs.
