Project 1001: June 2, 2024; Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
I got a mouth full of dirt / A hand full of charms / Got a rusty old spade / Don't care who I harm
Mudhoney is one of the Seattle-based bands credited with creating the grunge genre that dominated the music industry in the early 1990s and influenced so much of what came after.1 Mudhoney never reached the heights like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains. But they were there at the beginning.
If you’re looking for an album that well represents the genre and the era, you could do worse than this tight, 22-minute blast of grunge. It’s all there; the heavily distorted guitars, anguished & emotive vocals, angst. Lots of angst.
I didn’t know much about Mudhoney contemporaneously other than what I heard other bands say about them. Listening to this today I really liked the vocal work of Mark Arm. And I’m sorry I didn’t get into these guys at the time.
And Mudhoney is a great band name.
My Rating:
Playlist highlights: Loud Love (pretty much anything with Chris Cornell is going to be a highlight), Ocean Size, Unwind, and Dust Cake Boy, and Revolve.
Enjoy and listen without prejudice. Cheers!
