Project 1001: May 22, 2024; Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
I have no thought of leaving / I do not count the time
My knowledge of folk music or folk rock can be described as shallow. At best. I’m aware of it and some of the major figures but I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan. Although I do enjoy it when I hear it. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as British folk rock. But yet again this project has introduced me to an artist that is new to me. “Fairport Convention's achievement was not to invent folk rock, but to create a distinctly English branch of the genre”1, according to author Richie Unterberger (via Wikipedia).
So, we can consider this to be an important record in the history of popular music. I liked it, but I’m not sure I would go back to it. If I were taking a road trip and the person with me wanted to put this on, I’d enjoy it while taking in the beauty of the American landscape.
My Rating:
Playlist highlights: Where Do The Children Play, Matty Groves, Chelsea Morning.
Enjoy and listen without prejudice. Cheers!
