Project 1001: May 4, 2024; Palo Congo by Sabu Martinez
Sabu Martinez is a brand new artist to me. He was a highly regarded figure in the Cubop, or Afro-jazz, movement appearing on many important recordings of that genre as well as recording some classics in the Latin Jazz category.1
The vibe of the record appeals to me generally. Even though I didn’t care for a lot of the vocals the music was terrific. Standout for me is Rhapsodia Del Maravilloso (translated as Rhapsody of the Wonderful, I think.). I also quite liked Tribilín cantore (Tribilín singer).
I really like the playlist. Every piece is really good! The highlight for me is La Verdolaga.
