Project 1001: Screamadelica by Primal Scream; June 18, 2024
I'm movin' on up now / Getting out of the darkness / My light shines on
Primal Scream is one of those artists who I have a vague awareness of but no real memory of the music. This genre of music isn’t on my go-to list. But this album is excellent at what it sets out to do. I like Movin’ on Up a lot. Very peppy and a real toe-tapper.
My Rating:
Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, “There's no overestimating the importance of Screamadelica,” and “…they burst everything wide open here, turning rock inside out by marrying it to a gleeful rainbow of modern dance textures.” And he called it “an album that transcends its time and influence.”1
Melody Maker named it their album of the year.2
Pitchfork had this to say: “A clarion call for rock fans to stop fighting the future” and “Screamadelica 's atmospheric and imaginative hybrid of past, present and future captured its moment in vivid color and splendor, and it still radiates with a kaleidoscopic glow.”3
The single Movin’ on Up peaked at number 2 on the alternative airplay chart.4
